Centre for Terrorism Studies


Undoubtedly terrorism has become one of the main threats to our civilisation in 21st century. After attacks on WTC in New York and other objects on 11th September 2001, the concept of global terrorism has entered our vocabulary for good. The world faced the necessity to jointly fight against this phenomenon. A joint anti-terrorist coalition was formed as well as a range of governmental and research institutions which have joined the fight against terrorism. Also the University of Information Technology and Management established the Centre for Terrorism Studies, which is going to actively participate in preventing acts of terror.


The Centre for Terrorism Studies is a research post concerned with conducting research and making analyses at the order of government administration organs, non-governmental and private institutions, the results of which are used to make decisions concerning counteracting threats to public order and security.


The Centre’s activity includes:

 

  • Programme and substantial supervision over Anti-Terrorism post-graduate studies
  • Conducting the Centre for Terrorism Studies research group
  • Conducting current analysis of security and terrorist threats in the national and global scale
  • Publishing conclusionsat the Centre’s portal and in local press; so far cooperation was agreed with the daily “Super Nowości”
  • Cooperation with other centres concerned with terrorism-related problems
  • Scientific conferences dedicated to anti-terrorist issues
  • Scientific seminars – discussion on current terrorism-related issues in the world
  • cyclically organised (each month from October to December and from March to May), with the cooperation of the Centre’s research group together with the Institute of Research on Civilisations and with the support of students and invited guests
  • Workshops (of 2-3 days) addressed to specific services and institutions concerned with anti-terrorist issues – end of 2010.
  • Courses (semester-long) in terrorism-related issues from 2011, addressed to a wider audience than the workshops
  • Public lectures:
    • Addressed to secondary school students, presenting the main terrorism-related issues using competitions and other activities of the kind
    • Addressed to university students and employees, presenting more detailed issued, with discussions planned afterwards
  • Organising a training camp for students of Security (basing on the centre in Kielnarowa – 2nd semester of the year 2010/11).
  • Meetings within the Centre for Terrorism Studies Research Group – discussions on current terrorism-related issues in the world
  • Preparing a publication – dictionary of terrorism-related concepts
  • Preparing a publication on terrorist threats in Poland


 
By organising a range of meetings, lectures and trainings conducted by people specialising in the issues of terrorism, experts from the political and scientific arena, people connected with uniformed services, the Centre wants to reach a possibly greatest audience, spread awareness on threats to the country’s internal security, train in preventing such dangers, and also evoke discussion on issues concerning modern world asymmetric threats.
